Exercise in Exposure: The Sheet Cabinet

Is it a shelf? Is it a cabinet?

What is certain is that this hard to define beauty is designer Bjørn van den Berg’s creation.

Iconic Italian Design: Atollo Table Lamp

Geometric, timeless, the Atollo table lamp is high up on my wish list.

Easy to see why. Its opal murano glass shade seems to be suspended above the cylindrical base. And the base lights up too, to create a soft, intimate light, perfect for that Danish hygge feel.

Frivolous On Desk Wants

I will admit I want these pieces only for their pretty factor as there’s hardly any major function one can attach to them. But you know, everyone likes to hold in their palm a solid, well designed object from time to time. So there’s that.

The first place on my wants list is held by actual paperweights or imagined.

A2 Display: Simple and Personal

Clean design, basic shape, elongated legs. This combination can never grow old. And this is exactly the approach chosen by A2 designer Sara Larsson for the A2 display / cabinet.

Add on top the option to deconstruct the product and adapt it to one’s own aesthetics by combining parts available in various colors and materials, and you are sure to draw the attention of the minimalist like-minded crowd.

Bertoia Diamonds

Could you have guessed that these wire grid Bertoia beauties were first produced 1952? They feel so much like 21st century design. They fit right in in any minimalist Nordic setting, much like another favorite of mine, the Eames chair.

Typeborg Alphabet

You may already know that I’m excited about typography and all products that incorporate it in some form or another (toy alphabet blocks, pencils featuring Arne Jacobsen’s hand drawn alphabet from 1937, bedding).

No surprise then that I had to share graphic designer Marcel Piekarski‘s original and quirky 3D alphabet, called Type Cycle, where each letter is designed using detached pieces of bikes and 3D elements.

If going out for a spin is your thing, maybe you can spot a part here, a part there.

Effortless Packaging: Ouai Beauty Box

A combination of light grey and white with silvery metallic shine and just a fine strand of color. With their clean packaging, the Ouai hair care and styling products feel like a real treat.

The Case for Versatility

I have always been wary about things being labelled as this or that. Why should something be used in a singular way when there are so many contexts in which that same object can become something else, something more?

If I would have to name the two features I love most in an object those would have to be good design and versatility.

David Taylor: Tabletop Passion

My latest passion: tabletop objects created by David Taylor.

His tabletop lamp is simply stunning in it’s simplicity. It’s made out of aluminium, plastic and a rock.
